Music for the Generations
Built on the premise of Ability not Age,the Crown City Symphony was founded in 2002 by Roberta Wilcox and the Pasadena Senior Center, and gave its first performance in 2003, with founding Music Director, Mr. Marvin Neumann, conducting.
The Crown City Symphony (CCS) concert season consists of two to three performances of each of its three programs (Fall, Winter, Spring). In addition to its home town of Pasadena, the CCS has performed at venues in Woodland Hills, Whittier, Covina, and Los Angeles.
In 2002, the Crown City Symphony received a start-up grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts. This season (2009-2010) the orchestra is the recipient of another generous grant from Showcase House. CCS has also received grants from the Wallis Foundation, the Los Angeles Breakfast Club, Bea Buchman, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation, and the City of Pasadena.
Originally named the Crown City Chamber Players, the orchestra grew to be a full-fledged symphony, and so changed its name to the Crown City Symphony. It retains the use of the name Crown City Chamber Players for its small group performances.
